Why I Will Always Play Funk/Soul Records

Updated: Jun 19

Funk music is infectious. It is alive. Like a living, breathing organism that forces you to move to its groove. Soul music is like a window to your own soul. It will affect the listener in whatever way the Soul artist wanted to convey their message. And every funk/soul artist that I have come across up to this point managed to bind a part of themselves in their music. There is something about the digging process and discovering something incredible. Dusting off a record (well in my case searching/recommended playing on spotify!) and letting it colour the environment around you.

Not only does it lift your mood but you are now engaged in an activity that will highly likely improve the rest of your day. It makes you think about every instrument being played, the melody, the chords, the patterns, the rhythms. And what message or information do we download or attain when we listen like this? Does it make us think differently? Does it make us challenge ourselves and our capability to Love? Did James Brown influence all forms of Black music in the 21st century? Is that even a question?(lol) To summarise this pillar of thoughts Funk/Soul musics are genres that will be discovered by each generation that comes along and will have a cultural impact. Maybe not the same impact as the last but an impact all the same
