Let's face it. Everything is super expensive right now in the UK. However, there are a wealth of travel opportunities that won't break the bank even in this current time. From stunning natural landscapes to charming coastal towns, here's a quick review of five budget-friendly trips.

Jurassic Coast, Dorset

Relaxing at the jurassic coast

The Jurassic Coast in Dorset is a UNESCO World Heritage site that stretches for 96 miles, offering breathtaking views and a glimpse into 185 million years of Earth's history. Visitors can explore dramatic cliffs, natural arches, and fossil-rich beaches. Must-visit spots include Durdle Door, a natural limestone arch, and Lulworth Cove, known for its unique geology. The South West Coast Path offers plenty of walking trails, making it a paradise for hikers. With its natural beauty and educational value, the Jurassic Coast provides a rewarding experience without the need for a hefty budget. Tourists are looking at ÂŁ6 for parking and a tenner each roughly for some lunch at the cafe.

Virginia Water, Surrey

Located in Windsor Great Park, Virginia Water is a serene and picturesque destination perfect for a peaceful retreat. The main attraction is the Virginia Water Lake, surrounded by landscaped gardens and woodland. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lake, visit the striking Cascade waterfall, or explore the ruins of Leptis Magna, a Roman city. The totem pole and the Valley Gardens add cultural and botanical interest. Pack a picnic and spend a day here, as entry is free, making it an ideal spot for a budget-friendly outing. A member of thegaff visits here often (100 house-points if you can guess who). Parking comes to about 12 quid for up to 4 hours and plenty of cafes/food stands around with budget options.

Richmond Park, Kingston-upon-Thames

Richmond Park, the largest of London’s Royal Parks, is a natural oasis offering a break from the bustling city. Covering 2,500 acres, it is home to ancient woodlands, grasslands, and herds of free-roaming deer. The park's Isabella Plantation is a 40-acre woodland garden that is particularly beautiful in the spring and summer. Cyclists and walkers will find plenty of paths to explore, and the Pembroke Lodge offers stunning views of the Thames Valley. This used to be thegaff members back garden for 2 years. Entry is free, and its proximity to central London makes it an accessible and cost-effective escape into nature. Cafe is available with budget options.

Bournemouth Pier, Dorset

Bournemouth Pier is the heart of one of the UK's most famous seaside towns. The pier itself features a range of activities, including an indoor climbing wall and a zip line that provides thrilling rides from the pier to the shore. Surrounding the pier, the golden sandy beaches are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and beach sports. The Bournemouth Pier Arcade offers traditional seaside fun with a variety of games (thegaff said bring some spare dosh). Stroll along the pier to enjoy panoramic sea views and watch local fishermen at work. With many free and low-cost activities, Bournemouth Pier is a great destination for a fun and affordable day out.

Epsom Downs, Surrey

Epsom Downs is renowned for its racecourse, home to the famous Epsom Derby. However, this area offers much more than horse racing. The downs provide expansive open spaces perfect for walking, kite flying, and picnicking. The views from the top of the downs are spectacular, stretching across the London skyline and the rolling Surrey countryside. The Epsom Downs Centre offers information about the history of the area and upcoming events. Visiting Epsom Downs is free, making it a budget-friendly destination where you can enjoy the beauty of the British countryside. Thegaff said, "travel here for that one view of London you will not get anywhere else." There is an ice-cream van, petrol station and cafe very close-by with reasonably priced options

Hopefully these budget-friendly destinations in the UK provide a solution when it comes to planning your break, from exploring ancient coastlines to enjoying tranquil parks and lively seaside attractions. Whether you're interested in history, nature, or simply looking for a relaxing day out, there's something for everyone without the enormous price tag. Enjoy Your Summer Break - however it looks!
